5. Determine the mean assessed value of homes near interstates in Buffalo

Uses methods discussed on Nov 28.

Using data from the Census and New York State, determine the average assessed value of single-family year round residences in the city of Buffalo. Download the following data files:

• Nov-28/tiger_2016_erie.gpkg
• Nov-28/nys_tax_centriods-buffalo.gpkg
• Nov-28/buffalo-interstates.gpkg

Use the places layer of the first file to clip layers as needed to Buffalo. Filter the second file to include only properties with property class code 210 (single-family year-round residences). Build an appropriate buffer or buffers around the interstates. Export the properties to a CSV file and use Stata or Excel (or QGIS) to compute the mean assessed value (TOTAL_AV).
